Journey is a collection of original paintings by artist and entrepreneur, Quinn Smith-Windsor.

My paintings show how education is a right, how mamas play an important role in our communities, how animals need homes, how butterflies need plants, how we all have a responsibility to keep water safe and clean and how accessibility is important.”

- Quinn

Quinn Smith-Windsor’s début art exhibition, Journey, relays a message of perseverance and resilience. This collection was created throughout 2020-2021 where so many obstacles have come our way globally. Quinn’s message in creating this collection is that obstacles are not stop signs; we can always create a pathway forward. Quinn’s art reflects on her own experiences and opens conversations around topics such as: access to water, animals rights, and advocacy for equity in education. Each of Quinn’s paintings tells its own story, sharing her thoughts about how we need to be respectful of the environment, of water, of all humans, of each other. We all have a part to play in building a resilient world.

Quinn uses unique paint methods involving pouring, pressing and/or dragging string through wet paint. She sometimes uses silicone oil and a blow torch to create cells of colour. She uses the movement of her wheelchair to create movement on the canvas. Other times, she lets gravity do some work and let’s the paint go where it wants to. The end results are unique pieces where colors interact and create waves of ambient texture. These paintings stand as a metaphor of the beauty that still exists both within our own selves, the beauty that exists around us in the world and the beauty of our shared journey.
